IS101 Class Update

With weeks of classes behind us by this point, phase 1 of class wasn't too hard. I definitely slacked a little in getting things done in advance, I completely overlooked some of these assignments (hence the late second post, sorry Prof. Wu). I definitely need to keep my eyes peeled for future assignments and do them in a timely manner.

I chose to talk about 4.2.5 Text Importing from LabSim. I never knew importing text from sources I use for essays could be done so with a few clicks. I never thought copying and pasting text was hard but knowing Microsoft Office offers a way to do so without copy and pasting is really eye-opening. Since I'm typing this late, a similar feature to this in Excel is the data importing feature which was also very cool to see that you don't need to manually type or copy and paste data into each individual cell.

I prepared for the MO-110 Word certification exam with the "study guide" provided by LabSim and it worked out great. The format of the test was more updated than the practice which caught me by surprise but other than that, not too bad overall.

  1. Hi Thomas, I like how you were honest about missing some assignments because that happens more often than people admit, especially when everything starts piling up. The part about importing text from LabSim was actually interesting because I didn’t realize how much time that could save compared to copying and pasting everything manually. Your approach to preparing for the exam using the study guide makes sense too, even if the actual test format surprised you a bit. I think it shows you have a solid system, you just need to adjust for those unexpected parts.

Also, I enjoyed your presentation about tennis, it was actually more interesting than I expected. Thank you for sharing your favorite players too because it kind of shows what you value and what kind of player you look up to. The scoring system in tennis is honestly still confusing to me, but it was interesting hearing it explained again. I don’t really like sports or running, but I remember playing Super Tennis on the SNES when I was really young, and that’s probably the only reason I even recognize the scoring system at all. It’s funny how something from childhood sticks more than actual lessons sometimes.

  2. Glad to hear Phase 1 of IS101 wasn't too hard and you will keep your eyes peeled for future assignments and do them in a timely manner, Thomas :-)

Indeed, LabSim's "study guide" are helpful, evident by you earning the third highest score on MO-110 Word exam!

Yes, there is more than copy and pasting to put content into your document or spreadsheet ^_^

  3. Hello Thomas, I definitely agree being aware of the upcoming assignments is a huge factor to staying ahead in this class as it can be easily overlooked. Also very intriguing to learn from you that a similar source tool is available to use even in Excel I didn't know that.

  4. Hi Thomas!! The LabSim study guide definitely helps a lot for MO-110. I also wasn’t expecting the real exam format to be a bit different from the practice, so that can catch you off guard at first. Glad to hear it still went well overall.

  5. Hey Thomas, yeah assignments can definitely creep up fast when we don't anticipate them as often as we should. I also find the concept of importing data to an Excel document intriguing because it's essentially similar to what we saw in Word. Hope you have a great semester!

  6. Hi Thomas. I didn’t know that you can add text from another document without copying and pasting until I started taking IS101. This will definitely make transporting data much faster.

  7. Hello Thomas. I definitely didn't get some assignments done in a timely manner as well, some of it being from not paying enough attention to the to do list. I didn't know where was more than just copy pasting other information into a document as well.

  9. Hi, Thomas, I was also surprised by how many tools Microsoft Word has; one of them was Text Importing. Interestingly, there is others tools that we can use and not simply use the copy and paste command.

  10. Hello Thomas, I did the same thing and let some assignments accidentally get away from and fell behind. Not letting the small setbacks get bigger and continuing to advance is all that matters in the end.

  13. Hi Thomas, I like how you’re able to recognize that left some assignments behind and are working to improve. I also agree that the text importing feature is really helpful and makes the work easier.

  14. At one point college students hit that mark where they're all behind with class works and it is stressful. With how you manage to post this means you're progressing further. Slow progress is still progress.

  15. I didn’t know about the text importing feature before either, so that part was interesting to read. And yeah, the real MO-110 exam definitely feels a little different from the practice version at first.

  16. Hi Thomas, Your insight on text importing was interesting, especially how it connects to more efficient workflows in both Word and Excel.

  17. Hey Thomas, I think Professor Wu really gives slack if you are trying and that's what I appreciate, he knows when we try and when not so when he lets things fly; He does want us to succeed and even just understand before moving on. Good job on the test!

  18. Hi Thomas! I also did overlook quite a lot of assignments so I can relate to that part. The naming for some stuff confuses me as well (A3, D4, etc.) I often don't know what people pertain to when they ask me if I have done 'A7' or something like that, they would have to specify. It is also just bad time management and lack of attention on my part as I like to skim through things thinking it will save me time instead of reading everything slowly and carefully. So just like you, I definitely also need to keep my eyes peeled for future assignments and do them in a timely manner.
