IS101-3003/5, Spring 2026 was definitely a new experience for me. Before this course, the only Microsoft Office application I had a bit of experience in was Outlook. I've passed MO-110, 210, and 310. I'm a Microsoft Office Associate! I liked how this class was structured, we had a professor who wanted to see us succeed, he didn't allow us to go on auto-pilot or "zombie-brain" mode, we had to pay attention to certain details. We had a bunch of hard-working students who love going above and beyond and above and beyond they did.
I learned a lot from this course, not only in Microsoft Office, and not only in life skills, but people's lives. So many different perspectives of living, hobbies, jobs, loved ones, and more, all shown to use through slide show presentations.
From chapter 6 of LabSim, I wanted to talk about 6.3.1 Text and Content Placeholders. Text and Content Placeholders are what I found most useful in PowerPoint because of the convenience in selecting what you want to add into space the placeholder is occupying. This is where text is typed and where videos, audio, charts and pictures can be added as well.
This was my presentation using PowerPoint:

Hey Thomas, I was actually there during your presentation about tennis, and I think what made it stand out was how passionate you were about the topic. Usually in a lot of presentations, especially in other classes, the information feels very academic and purely educational, so after a while it starts sounding repetitive and difficult to stay engaged with.
ReplyDeleteYour presentation felt different because it sounded like you genuinely enjoyed talking about the subject, which made it more interesting to listen to. I also did not know much about how tennis scoring worked before, so learning about the point system ended up being a neat little piece of trivia for me.
Yeah, if I'm being honest, I don't think I've ever been more passionate about a subject/sport than tennis. It's really weird because for most things, I tend to do the bare minimum that meets my expectations, but I've never wanted to do the best I possibly can, exceeding the bare minimum.
DeleteHello Thomas. There were plenty of great students in our class that I admired! It's always nice to see people so motivated. Though I don't do well personally in classes that have a lot of homework, everything I learned was very useful and I could tell that there was a reason for those assignments to exist. I thought the design for your PowerPoint was chosen very well for your topic.
ReplyDeleteHi Thomas, it’s great that you earned your Microsoft Office Associate certification and gained confidence using different Office applications throughout the semester. I also liked how you mentioned learning about your classmates and their different experiences through presentations.
ReplyDeleteHey Thomas! Context Placeholders were so fun to learn how to use! Very helpful, and I'm glad I will know how to use them in the future!
ReplyDeleteHi Thomas, you're right, our professor did not want us on the "zombie mode", which is a good thing because a lot of us tend to slip behind when life and other things gets in the way of our assignments. And yes, we did learn a lot about other people, which is pretty cool, just like your tennis presentation! Have a good one, keep up the hard work!
ReplyDeleteHi Thomas. I like the use of content placeholders because they allow you to easily insert different kinds of content like tables, images and videos.
ReplyDeleteHey Thomas, the experience within this class gave us so much things to learn. While professor Wu continued to ask more of us in order to succeed in a great way that benefitted all of us.
ReplyDeleteHello Thomas. I agree, I enjoyed that we had to actually think for this course, and that Professor Wu helped people succeed!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being an MOS associate! It's been a journey for sure! Yes I agree our professor doesn't just let us have zombie brains just because we want to finish assignments. We have to actually think about our answers and use common sense sometimes with the questions.
ReplyDeleteThe zombie-brain part is a funny but real statement, one of my favorite things about this class is it lets us think for ourselves before we get help. Also, your slide's topic is not of my interest but I would've loved to see it since I like learning about new things! I'm not a sports person but I bet your presentation was great.
ReplyDeleteHi Thomas, yes, this course definitely tested us and even when we felt drained or ready to quit, he pushed us to the limits. Being a MOS Associate is a great accomplishment but also realizing how much effort every assignment took in this class you can feel accomplished. In passing the finish line you know that you had to work extremely hard.
ReplyDeleteHey Thomas, I like how you pointed out text and content placeholders since they really make building PowerPoint slides more flexible and efficient when combining text, images, and other media.
ReplyDeleteHi, I like how you mentioned learning not just Microsoft Office skills but also learning about other people through their presentations. And honestly getting all three certifications is really impressive, especially starting with almost no experience before the class.
